Paris Games Week opens amid French video game industry crisis

The 15th edition of Paris Games Week opens amidst a significant crisis within the French video game industry. While the event aims to refocus on core gaming experiences by offering over 150 playable titles, the sector faces severe economic headwinds.

Data from the Syndicat national du jeu vidéo indicates that 48 percent of studios reported deficits for 2025. Major industry players, including Ubisoft, Don’t Nod, Nacon, and Quantic Dream, have implemented job cuts due to lower-than-expected sales and restricted access to capital. Industry experts have noted that the sector has transitioned from being relatively risky to “extremely risky” for investors.

The event features major hardware manufacturers such as Sony and Nintendo, while Microsoft is participating through a collaboration between Xbox and Ikea. Highly anticipated titles include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and the Final Fantasy VII remake. To support the professional community, the PGW Business by CMS program will also host discussions on production, financing, and distribution.
