French well-being trends show personal resilience despite time constraints

Recent surveys in France reveal a paradox between individual well-being and the broader national climate. According to an Elabe study, 69% of French people report feeling personally well for the 2026 back-to-school season, a significant increase from 59% in 2025. This sense of well-being is heavily tied to personal financial stability; 87% of those who can manage their monthly budgets without restriction report feeling well, compared to only 56% of those facing financial constraints.

However, other data highlights challenges regarding personal time and mental load. An OpinionWay study conducted for Yves Rocher indicates that 43% of French women struggle to preserve time for themselves shortly after the return to school. This issue is particularly acute among women under 50, with 53% of those under 35 and 55% of those aged 35-49 reporting difficulties. The presence of children further intensifies this pressure, affecting 60% of women in couples with children.
