French women's tennis hits record low with single player in WTA top 100

The WTA rankings released on 3 August 2026 show Diane Parry as the only French woman inside the top 100, positioned around world No. 60. This is the first time in the history of the computerized rankings that France has been represented by a single player, ending a period when four to six French women regularly featured among the elite.

The decline was underscored at the WTA tournament in Toronto, where French qualifiers Lois Boisson (world No. 292) and Léolia Jeanjean (world No. 117) were both eliminated in the first round. Boisson lost to Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic in three sets, while Jeanjean fell to Poland’s Magdalena Frech in straight sets. The results highlight a broader erosion of depth in French women’s tennis after the recent departures of Varvara Gracheva and Elsa Jacquemot from the top 100.

Analysts note the drop reflects both the loss of points from the previous season and a lack of emerging talent to replace the former generation.
