French woodworking firms expand via public contracts and automation
French woodworking companies are demonstrating growth through specialized expertise and technological investment.
In Barbezieux, L’Atelier du Bois has established itself as a major regional institution over its 95-year history. The company generates approximately 4.4 million euros in revenue, with 80% of its business derived from public sector contracts. Their work includes wood cladding for gymnasiums, interior renovations for schools, and fire-rated doors for hospitals. The company employs roughly 30 staff members and maintains a steady workflow by diversifying its client base beyond the local cognac industry.
In Villevaudé, the carpentry firm SM Bois has modernized its operations with the installation of a 4.5-tonne high-tech digital flat saw. This new equipment allows for precise cutting of panels in over 150 colors for use in kitchens, furniture, and exhibition stands. The automated system uses specialized software to optimize wood usage and minimize waste, integrating features such as air-cushion tables for easier handling and aspiration systems to collect residues.
