Frente Amplio re-elects Fernando Pereira at VIII Congress
The Frente Amplio concluded its VIII Congress, titled ‘Compañero José Pepe Mujica’, with Fernando Pereira re-elected by acclamation. The political coalition focused its resolutions on long-term strategies for progressive governance, emphasizing wealth redistribution, the eradication of child poverty, a just ecological transition, and the protection of social rights.
During the congress, Pereira expressed solidarity with former senator Charles Carrera, defending his actions regarding a person injured by gunfire. Pereira criticized the current administration under Luis Lacalle Pou, specifically regarding alleged surveillance of political figures and issues related to police patrol vehicle procurement. The coalition also reaffirmed its support for the administration of Yamandú Orsi, aiming to build new social majorities and deepen social transformations in Uruguay.
