Frente Amplio starts internal election drives in Araucanía and Arica
The left‑wing coalition Frente Amplio began its internal election campaign in Chile, with the campaign period running from 25 July to 13 August and party members voting on 15‑16 August. New regional and national authorities are to assume office later in August.
In the Araucanía region, the Fuerza Territorial list opened its campaign, nominating María Josefa Alcamán Curín for regional president and presenting a platform that includes stronger territorial work, a regional training school, an annual political plan, semi‑annual public accounts and permanent communication with local bases. The list also backs candidates for the national central committee and other regional bodies.
In the northern city of Arica, Frente Amplio candidates Leonardo Jofré and Javiera Cabello toured the region to promote the “Unidad Para Avanzar” list led by deputy Gael Yeomans. They warned that President José Antonio Kast’s government threatens regional stability, cited the resignation of four regional ministers and criticized the governor’s handling of public resources, while highlighting a rise in unemployment to 9.6 % and pledging to work with the opposition to reverse the economic decline.
