Frente Cívica demands enforcement of TGV contract in Vila Nova de Gaia

The civic association Frente Cívica is calling on the Portuguese government to strictly enforce the concession contract for the Porto-Lisbon high-speed rail line (TGV). The association argues that government hesitation regarding the project's details has caused significant delays.

A central point of contention is the location of the station in Vila Nova de Gaia. The existing contract between Infraestruturas de Portugal and the AVAN consortium—which includes companies such as Mota-Engil, Serena, and Teixeira Duarte—stipulates that the station be located in Santo Ovídio, providing connections to two metro lines.

According to Frente Cívica vice-president João Paulo Batalha, the AVAN consortium attempted to relocate the station to Vilar do Paraíso, a move that was subsequently rejected by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). Batalha criticized the government for failing to uphold the original terms of the tender, claiming that the delay in addressing these changes has wasted nearly two years of progress.
