Frentsis Beleris addresses Turkish provocations at European Parliament
MEP Frentsis Beleris addressed the European Parliament regarding ongoing tensions in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. He issued a message against Turkish provocations, stating that while Greece remains committed to dialogue and good neighborly relations, it will not negotiate its sovereignty or succumb to blackmail.
Beleris highlighted several issues, including violations of Greek airspace, breaches of international law, and the illegal entry of Turkish fishing vessels into Greek territorial waters, which he noted threatens the livelihoods of Greek fishermen. He also criticized the illegal establishment of maritime parks and the revival of the ‘Blue Homeland’ doctrine.
Furthermore, the MEP noted that Turkey occupies one-third of Cyprus and maintains a ‘casus belli’ against Greece. He concluded by asserting that war threats and revisionism have no place in Europe and called for zero tolerance toward challenges against EU member states.
