Fresenius Kabi expands infusion solution production in Italy

Fresenius Kabi has inaugurated a new production line at its facility in Isola della Scala, Verona, to enhance the supply of infusion solutions. Marco Pianta, Country General Manager for Italy, stated that the facility previously covered approximately 40% of the Italian market's needs, but the new line provides the capacity to supply the entire Italian market in addition to export orders.

The expansion is part of a ‘local for local’ strategy aimed at increasing flexibility and resilience against health or geopolitical crises regarding critical drug supplies. The investment for this specific line is approximately 30 million euros, contributing to a broader Fresenius investment plan in Italy totaling 110 million euros in recent years.

Pianta also addressed the need for stronger European support for pharmaceutical industrial production, noting that while the upcoming Critical Medicine regulation is a step forward, allocated funds remain modest. He advocated for clearer rules and procurement processes that prioritize local production over price alone.
