Fresh Direct marks 60 years as UK foodservice supplier

Fresh Direct is marking its 60th anniversary, tracing its evolution from a small Oxfordshire greengrocer founded in 1966 to a major national supplier for the British foodservice sector. The company currently supports thousands of chefs across various industries, including restaurants, hotels, pubs, healthcare, and education.

As part of its growth and sustainability efforts, the company has expanded its British grower network and invested in the fresh prepared produce sector. Notably, all of its contracted British growers now hold full LEAF Marque certification, a milestone described as a first for the foodservice industry. This certification aims to reinforce responsible farming practices and supply chain resilience.

Managing Director Andy Pembroke stated that the milestone is a moment of pride for the company’s colleagues, growers, and customers. To commemorate the anniversary, Fresh Direct is launching celebratory activities, including a film documenting its journey from local roots to a national scale.
