Freshuelva to recruit 100 Egyptian workers for berry harvest
Freshuelva, the Huelva Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters, has announced a pilot project to recruit 100 workers from Egypt for the upcoming berry harvest campaign. The initiative aims to address labor needs for the association's member companies.
The recruitment process in Egypt is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2026, with the first group of workers expected to arrive in January 2027 to coincide with the start of the harvest. This project expands Freshuelva's existing origin-based recruitment efforts to a new country.
Details of the collaboration were finalized during the Fruit Attraction trade fair in Madrid, where a delegation from the Egyptian Embassy in Spain met with Freshuelva representatives. The meeting also allowed the embassy delegation to learn about the Huelva berry sector, including the cultivation of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, as well as local innovation processes.
