Fresnes Prison inmate dies in cell fire

An inmate has died at the Fresnes prison in Val-de-Marne following a fire in his cell. According to police sources and the Créteil prosecutor's office, the individual was found in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 02:50.

Preliminary investigation findings suggest the death was a suicide. It is reported that the inmate, who was alone in his cell, set fire to his own clothing, which caused the fire to destroy the entire cell. The deceased was being held in pre-trial detention for attempted murder and was also serving sentences for drug possession and driving offenses.
