Fresnillo, Zacatecas, marks 472 years of history and upcoming film festival

The city of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, is marking its 472nd anniversary, tracing its origins back to a 1554 expedition from Zacatecas led by Juan de Tolosa. Local chronicler Carlos López Gómez noted that historical research into the city's beginnings gained momentum through community-led celebrations starting in 1954.

In addition to its historical milestones, the region continues to promote cultural decentralization through events such as the 18th Fresnillo Film Festival. Scheduled for November 17–21, 2026, the festival is organized by the Instituto Zacatecano de Cultura Ramón López Velarde and Cineteca Zacatecas. The event features Mexican and international film premieres, short film contests, and industry workshops held at various local venues, including the Centro Cultural El Tunal.
