Fresnillo, Zacatecas reports electoral updates, school preparations, and health investigations

Various regional developments are occurring in Fresnillo, Zacatecas. The Instituto Electoral del Estado de Zacatecas (IEEZ) has opened calls for citizen participation ahead of the 2026-2027 electoral process. This includes opportunities to join District and Municipal Councils, as well as specific openings in the National Professional Electoral Service aimed at increasing gender parity by recruiting women for roles related to political parties and the INE.

In education, authorities in Fresnillo are preparing for the 2026-2027 school year. Over 11,000 backpacks and various textbooks have been distributed to primary and secondary students to ensure they are equipped for the start of classes on August 31. Additionally, plans for distributing school footwear are underway.

Public health and safety concerns have also been raised. Authorities are investigating a suspected food poisoning incident where approximately 34 of 60 attendees at an event fell ill; however, a specific cause has not been identified due to a delay in reporting. Meanwhile, the local DIF has increased supervision in brickyards and municipal dumps to protect children from health risks, such as smoke inhalation and exposure to contaminants, during the vacation period.
