Fresno de la Vega prepares for 41st Pimiento Morrón Fair
The town of Fresno de la Vega is preparing for the 41st edition of the Pimiento Morrón Fair, scheduled for September 26 and 27. Recognized as a Regional Tourist Interest Festival, the event celebrates the local red pepper, a product protected by the IGP Pimiento Morrón Fresno-Benavente designation. This year’s theme, ‘Las madres de la tierra’, honors the women who have preserved traditional agricultural knowledge.
In conjunction with the upcoming fair, the Academia Leonesa de Gastronomía held a gastronomic event at the Hotel de la Real Colegiata de San Isidoro to promote the region's agro-food products. The gathering included representatives from the University of León, where a recent agreement aims to strengthen the link between gastronomy and scientific research. Experts analyzed the nutritional and scientific properties of the pepper as part of this collaborative effort to defend and disseminate León's local products.
The fair will feature approximately 15 local producers, 12 external producers, and three canning companies. The annual harvest reaches nearly one million kilograms across 120 hectares. Portugal will serve as the guest country for this year's international gastronomic gathering.
