Fresno emerges as affordable destination for Gen Z migrants

Fresno is increasingly becoming a destination for young people, particularly Gen Z, migrating from high-cost California metropolitan areas like Los Angeles and Riverside. According to U-Haul data, Fresno is the second most common destination for Gen Zers leaving Los Angeles and the fourth most common for those leaving Riverside.

State Assemblyman David Tangipa highlights the city's affordability compared to other regions. While the median home price in California was just under $900,000 in September, Fresno's median price was approximately $400,000. This price gap often allows residents to purchase homes with yards rather than condos in the Bay Area or Los Angeles.

Beyond housing, the region's economy is supported by a massive agricultural sector, with Fresno County's output reaching $8.1 billion in 2022. The area is also expanding its technological footprint through initiatives like the F3i Supercomputing Center, a partnership involving Fresno State and F3 Innovate.
