Fresno police seek suspect in $2,500 gas station theft

Authorities in Fresno, California, are seeking the public's help to identify a man who allegedly siphoned $2,545 worth of fuel directly from underground tanks at a gas station on August 10. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Chestnut and East McKinley avenues.

The suspect is described as a white adult male wearing glasses, driving a black 1986 Chevrolet single cab long-bed pickup truck with fading paint on the roof. Video footage of the theft has been released by the Fresno Police Department to assist in the investigation.

The theft occurs amid high fuel costs in California, where statewide gas prices recently rose to an average of $5.66 per gallon. AAA has noted that volatility in the Strait of Hormuz has contributed to crude oil prices remaining near $80 per barrel.
