Fresno State Recognizes Picayune Rancheria for Educational Partnership

California State University, Fresno presented a commemorative medallion to the tribal council of the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians in Coarsegold, California, acknowledging the tribe’s long‑standing support of the university and its joint commitment to expanding educational opportunities throughout the Central Valley. Tribal Chairperson Deann Kamalani said the honor reflects a relationship built on mutual respect and shared values that strengthen community and preserve culture. Fresno State Director of Tribal Relations Kellie Carrillo and University Advancement staffer Danielle Young highlighted the partnership’s focus on student success and community service. The tribe, also operator of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino—one of the region’s largest employers—has invested in initiatives that benefit both Native and broader student populations.
