Fresno State unveils new student housing and family units

Fresno State has officially opened a new student housing complex, marking the university’s first major housing development in 50 years. The four-story, approximately 80,000-to-83,000-square-foot building is located at the corner of Shaw and Cedar avenues.

The facility provides nearly 230 apartment-style beds in one- to four-bedroom units. Notably, the complex includes six units specifically designated for students with children, representing the first housing of its kind at the university. These family-focused units include full kitchens, laundry facilities, and access to a basketball court for children.

University officials noted that the apartment-style design allows undergraduate residents to opt out of mandatory meal plans due to the inclusion of built-in kitchens, potentially reducing costs. President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval stated that the project was motivated by rising local rental prices and the goal of helping students remain connected to campus to improve academic success and graduation rates.
