Fresno Unified restores school field trips after community backlash

Fresno Unified School District has reversed its decision to eliminate centrally funded field trips for the current school year following significant backlash from parents, teachers, and the community. The district had previously announced cuts of approximately $2.2 million in enrichment trips as part of broader budget reductions, a move that threatened to affect roughly 40,000 students.

Superintendent Mao Misty Her announced the reversal during a press conference, stating that the district listened to community concerns. The funding to restore these trips will be provided by the Foundation for Fresno Unified Students, a nonprofit foundation. Her also apologized to families for the lack of direct communication regarding the initial cuts.

Despite the restoration of these activities, Her noted that the decision does not resolve the long-term financial challenges facing the district.
