Fresno water treatment plant solar project exceeds output forecasts

A new solar installation at the City of Fresno’s Northeast Surface Water Treatment Plant is currently outperforming energy forecasts by 101%. Developed by ForeFront Power, the project utilizes Erthos Earth Mount Solar technology, which places photovoltaic modules directly on the ground without the need for traditional steel racking, trackers, or extensive civil work.

By eliminating the requirement for structural steel and significant site reshaping, the design reduced labor and material costs, even on sloped terrain of up to 15%. This specific installation is part of a larger 27 MW solar-and-battery portfolio managed by ForeFront Power across three municipal water facilities. The broader program is projected to potentially save local ratepayers over $122 million in electricity costs by 2045 through a 20-year power purchase agreement.
