FREVS proposes urgent measures to combat unemployment and support MSMEs
The Regionalist Green Social Federation (FREVS) has proposed an immediate action plan to combat rising unemployment and support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Chile. The proposal, developed by the group’s Economic and Social Commission, focuses on rapid implementation strategies to protect existing jobs and accelerate job creation.
Key measures include strengthening Corfo and Sercotec instruments, providing hiring subsidies, and reactivating public works projects that are ready for execution. FREVS President Jaime Mulet emphasized the need for state intervention to stop the increasing flow of layoffs, noting that priority should be given to supporting currently functioning companies rather than solely focusing on new business creation.
The plan also includes financing mechanisms and guarantees for MSMEs, with specific incentives for hiring women and youth, who are among the most affected by unemployment. Additionally, the proposal suggests accelerating public investment by reviewing and re-tendering projects that previously lacked bidders, alongside initiatives for ecological transition and labor training.
