Friant Ranch project receives unanimous planning commission recommendation
The Fresno County Planning Commission has unanimously recommended approval for Friant Ranch, a $1.1 billion mega-project aimed at creating a new town near Millerton Dam. The project, which has been in development for decades, is now moving toward a final vote by the Fresno County Board of Supervisors scheduled for next month.
The proposal faces significant opposition from environmental, agricultural, and voting rights groups, including the Sierra Club and the League of Women Voters. Critics argue that the project’s environmental review is insufficient. Legal representatives for Friant Ranch noted that the project has been subject to extensive litigation for approximately 30 years.
