Frida Kahlo exhibition 'Viva Frida' opens at Buenos Aires' Malba

The exhibition "Viva Frida", described as one of the most important shows devoted to Frida Kahlo, will be presented for the first time in South America at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba). The opening is scheduled for 17 September 2026 and the exhibition will run until 15 March 2027.

Organized by the Semana de la Alta Costura Argentina and the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico, the project is directed by Elina Costantini, curated by Circe Henestrosa and includes collaboration from Gannit Ankori. It brings together personal objects from Kahlo’s Casa Azul – traditional Tehuana garments, jewelry, orthopedic corsets, cosmetics and other items rediscovered in 2004 – alongside paintings such as Autorretrato con chango y loro (1942), Diego y yo (1949) and the lithograph Sin título (El aborto) (1932) from the Malba‑Costantini collection. The exhibition also includes a documentary collection of art critic Raquel Tibol’s photographs, correspondence and related materials.
