The Friedkin Group explores sale of Everton FC
The Friedkin Group (TFG) has announced it is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest. This decision comes less than two years after the Texas-based group acquired a 94.1% stake in the club in December 2024, ending a period of financial instability under former owner Farhad Moshiri.
TFG stated that having stabilized the club’s finances and completed the transition to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, the “time is right to consider the next chapter.” The group has retained investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the process. While TFG is open to a full sale, they emphasized they will only entertain interest from parties they believe are the “right stewards to take the club forward.”
Everton manager David Moyes expressed surprise at the news, noting he had only recently learned of the development. The club’s financial profile remains a key factor for potential buyers; reports indicate a high wage-to-turnover ratio of approximately 79% for the 2024/25 season and significant debt obligations. TFG has assured supporters that they will maintain full support for the club until a suitable successor is identified.
