Friedrich Merz calls on Israel to stop Lebanon offensive, backs US‑Iran peace pact

German politician Friedrich Merz, speaking at the G7 summit in France, urged Israel to end its large‑scale offensive in southern Lebanon and to adopt a constructive stance toward the Trump‑brokered U.S.–Iran peace agreement. He warned that continued fighting threatens regional stability, drives up energy prices and harms the global economy.

Merz also argued that American military superiority leaves Iran with no viable alternative, reinforcing his view that diplomatic solutions are essential to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
