Friedrich Schelling and the concept of the absolute

Friedrich Schelling (1775–1854) was a prominent German philosopher whose life's work focused on discovering the ultimate foundation of existence, referred to as ‘the absolute’. His intellectual journey spanned various themes, including nature, spirit, freedom, and history.

During his time at the Tübingen Seminary, Schelling studied alongside figures such as Hegel and Hölderlin, engaging with the idealist traditions of Kant and Fichte. His philosophical evolution moved from a focus on transcendental idealism and the activity of the ‘I’ toward a philosophy of nature. In this later stage, he transitioned from viewing nature as inert matter to seeing it as a dynamic, productive, and creative reality.
