Seoul hosts Frieze Seoul and Kiaf art fairs

Seoul is set to host a major concentration of international art events this September, headlined by the fifth edition of Frieze Seoul and the 25th anniversary of Kiaf SEOUL. Both fairs will take place at the COEX convention center from September 2 to 5, marking the final time the two events will share the same venue before Frieze moves to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in 2027.

Frieze Seoul 2026 will feature over 130 galleries from 30 countries, including major names such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, and David Zwirner. New sections for the fair include ‘Spotlight’, focusing on overlooked 20th-century artists, and ‘Material Practice’, which highlights craft-based works like ceramics and textiles. Kiaf SEOUL will host 175 galleries from 18 countries.

BMW Korea has returned as an official partner for the fifth consecutive year. The company will collaborate with renowned Korean experimental artist Lee Kang-so to create an immersive exhibition space within the BMW Excellence Lounge, integrating the BMW XM Label as a sculptural element. BMW will also provide VIP shuttle services and test-drive programs.

The broader Seoul Art Week will expand the festivities across the city, involving 141 venues including museums and galleries. Programming includes the ‘Opening Night’ in Euljiro, residency tours, and various biennials in Gwangju, Busan, Jeju, and Gyeonggi. Additionally, Frieze Music Seoul will feature performances by DJ APRO and singer Roy Kim.
