Frigerio faces scrutiny over school meal procurement costs

National deputies in Argentina have filed a formal request for information regarding Governor Rogelio Frigerio’s decision to alter the food provision system for school cafeterias. The inquiry follows controversy over the procurement of food from outside the province, despite local production capabilities.

National Deputy Marianela Marclay questioned the economic and nutritional basis of the new program, noting that costs significantly exceeded initial estimates. While the tender was valued at approximately 42.6 billion pesos, the province reportedly spent over 101.7 billion pesos. Marclay has called for technical, nutritional, and economic reports to ensure the new menus do not contribute to issues such as malnutrition, obesity, or diabetes.
