Frigidaire launches AI recipe assistant to curb US food waste
Frigidaire introduced Frankie, an AI‑powered recipe assistant that creates meal ideas from ingredients already in a household fridge. The tool is aimed at helping American families reduce the amount of leftover food they discard.
Research commissioned by Frigidaire found that 86% of respondents like leftovers, yet 74% admit to throwing them out at least once a week, costing an average family of four about $1,500 annually. About 90% said they still opt for takeout or delivery even when a suitable leftover is available, with the top reason for waste being that leftovers are forgotten in the back of the fridge. Better visibility and organization were cited as ways to cut waste.
Frankie generates personalized recipes in seconds based on the items users input, encouraging the use of existing leftovers and aiming to lower food‑waste levels across US households.
