Grupo Mirgor executes layoffs in Río Grande following failed labor talks
Grupo Mirgor has proceeded with a series of layoffs in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego, following the expiration of a voluntary conciliation period with the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM). Reports indicate that approximately 100 to 130 workers have been dismissed, including some union representatives.
The conflict stems from disagreements over labor conditions and a disputed annual productivity bonus that the UOM has been claiming since early 2026. During the recent negotiations, workers reportedly faced difficulties accessing plants due to blocked access cards.
Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto criticized the company's actions, stating that the dismissals are not merely a restructuring measure but a form of punishment against workers. He emphasized that the province's economy is built on labor and called on Mirgor to resume dialogue with the union and fulfill outstanding obligations.
