Frigorífico Tacuarembó workers reject restructuring and job cuts

Workers at Frigorífico Tacuarembó in Uruguay have rejected a restructuring proposal submitted to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The company’s plan includes the reduction of 150 jobs, changes to production systems, and the outsourcing of certain services.

The proposal involves adjusting slaughtering and deboning speeds to a uniform rate across different shifts and reducing staff in the slaughtering, deboning, and cutting sectors. The union has announced that its primary priority in negotiations will be the defense of existing jobs.
