Frijoles Fire reaches 31% containment amid suppression efforts

The Frijoles Fire has reached 31% containment, covering approximately 12,974 acres. The fire, which was caused by lightning and began on August 4, 2026, is currently being managed by a federal incident management team using a full-suppression strategy.

Firefighters are focusing on securing the western flank and protecting nearby communities. Aerial resources, including helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, are being used to apply retardant. To support extended operations in remote eastern and southern areas, crews are planning to establish spike camps to reduce travel time to the fireline.
