Frisco, Texas, expands indoor digital mapping for city operations

Frisco, Texas, has expanded its Situational Awareness for Emergency Response (SAFER) program, transitioning from a specialized emergency tool to a comprehensive municipal management system. Originally launched to provide first responders with detailed school floor plans, live video feeds, and locations of hazardous materials, the program now utilizes Esri’s ArcGIS platform to maintain real-time indoor mapping for over 200 facilities.

The expanded coverage includes hospitals, shopping centers, event venues, and the Dallas Cowboys corporate headquarters. Beyond emergency services, the city is repurposing the geospatial data for daily operations, such as tracking automated external defibrillators, managing stormwater and sewer networks, and maintaining tree inventories. By integrating more than 30 disparate data systems into a single platform, the city aims to reduce costs and improve response times across various departments.
