Friuli seismic preparedness reviewed 50 years after 1976 earthquake
Fifty years after the 1976 Friuli earthquake, scientific and civil protection organizations are evaluating current seismic preparedness and the evolution of monitoring technologies. A workshop organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) brought together the scientific community and Civil Protection to discuss lessons learned and existing structural vulnerabilities.
In Cervignano del Friuli, educational initiatives have also focused on the intersection of memory, research, and professional roles. Discussions highlighted the transition from basic earthquake knowledge to advanced monitoring and prevention systems, as well as the importance of managing emergencies for vulnerable populations and the role of volunteers in reconstruction and building safety.
