Italian regional authorities debate healthcare funding and local government reforms
Regional political discussions in Italy are focusing on budgetary allocations and administrative reforms. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, Health Councilor Riccardo Riccardi presented an autumn adjustment maneuver. The plan allocates approximately 3.483 billion euros to the regional healthcare system for 2026, including 98.32 million euros for investments and 3.384 billion euros for current spending. Additional funds are designated for telemedicine in residential care facilities, support for the non-self-sufficient, and removing architectural barriers in private homes.
In other regional contexts, the Democratic Party (Pd) has expressed criticism regarding financial measures. In one instance, the party announced its intention to abstain from the 2026 multisectoral financial measures bill (Ddl 95), citing a lack of long-term vision and concerns regarding energy, birth rates, and provincial restructuring. Meanwhile, representatives from the Pd in Piedmont have called for a comprehensive reform of local authorities, arguing that current legislative changes are insufficient to provide the stability and resources required by small and mountain municipalities.
