Friuli Venezia Giulia evaluates entry into Vajont Foundation
The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government is considering joining the Vajont Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the 1963 Vajont tragedy and promoting research and prevention. The proposal involves a potential participation fee of 375,000 euros, which would grant the region a seat on the Foundation's board of directors.
During a recent hearing of the V Council Commission in Trieste, regional officials discussed the economic, legal, and organizational implications of the move. Vice-governor Mario Anzil stated that the regional government intends to deepen its analysis of the Foundation's assets, multi-year activity programs, and personnel organization before making a final decision.
Regional Councilor Lucia Buna has called for a careful evaluation of the proposal. She emphasized the need to understand how this membership would interact with existing regional support for local communities and the 70,000 euros annually provided by the Friulian Dolomites Park for dam site management. The goal is to ensure that formal membership does not penalize current local initiatives.
