Friuli Venezia Giulia expands elderly care capacity with new regional guidelines

The regional council of Friuli Venezia Giulia approved new parameters for assisting residents over 70 who are non‑self‑sufficient. The plan raises authorized places in day‑care centres from 646 to 1,253 and adds 1,557 new residential‑care beds, bringing the total to roughly 13,200 beds for seniors.

The measures target the region’s roughly 250,000 ultra‑septuagenarians, of whom more than 36,000 are already non‑self‑sufficient and another 30,000 are at risk. By increasing capacity and redistributing places among local service providers, the region aims to cut waiting times (currently 60‑80 days), support families and caregivers, and keep more seniors at home longer. Funding for the initiative includes a 40 % rise in resources for fee reductions, now €110 million per year, plus a €70 million autonomy fund for 2026.
