Friuli Venezia Giulia to host regional reading marathon

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region will host a large-scale reading marathon titled ‘Un libro lungo un giorno’ on Friday, October 30, 2026. The initiative serves as a precursor to the bicentennial celebrations of Carlo Collodi, the author of Pinocchio.

Over 100 events are planned across the region, including readings, exhibitions, and podcasts designed to engage all age groups. A featured event will take place at Miramare Castle in Trieste, where illustrator Nicoletta Costa will present ‘Il mio Pinocchio,’ a new volume featuring her artwork alongside original texts by Andersen Prize winner Giusi Quarenghi. The castle will also host an exhibition of more than 20 historical editions of Pinocchio.

The program is part of the ‘LeggiAMO 0-18 FVG’ project and is supported by various institutions, including the Italian Library Association (Friuli Venezia Giulia section) and the Center for the Health of Girls and Boys. The initiative encourages public participation through the hashtag #ullug2026.
