Friulian language history to be presented at Pordenonelegge

Authors William Cisilino and Flavio Santi will present “Une Fevele Sflandorose / Una Splendida Favella” at the Pordenonelegge event on September 18, 2026. Published by ARLeF (Agenzia regionale per la lingua friulana), the bilingual volume explores the history and evolution of the Friulian language and its literature.

The book traces two parallel paths: the linguistic history and spread of Friulian, and the development of its literature from early testimonies to contemporary authors. It includes recent sociolinguistic data, maps, and visual documents to provide a scientific yet accessible overview for both speakers and newcomers.

The presentation will be opened by ARLeF President Eros Cisilino and moderated by journalist Marta Rizzi. The work features a preface by writer Giorgio Fontana, highlighting the language's unique blend of popular and literary traditions.
