Fröndenberg prison hospital fire leaves two seriously injured
A fire broke out in a cell at the Fröndenberg prison hospital, the largest facility of its kind in Germany, located in North Rhine-Westphalia. The incident, which occurred around 2:03 AM on Thursday, resulted in two people sustaining serious injuries. Both individuals were taken for intensive medical care, though they are not reported to be in life-threatening condition.
Emergency responders, including a police squad and a rescue helicopter, attended the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest an inmate may have intentionally set the fire. While the fire was brought under control within approximately two and a half hours, ventilation measures continued into the afternoon. Authorities stated there was no danger to the surrounding population, and affected inmates are expected to be relocated within the facility.
