Frontera hosts 50 Leguas del Grijalva motorboat race
The 50 Leguas del Grijalva motorboat race recently concluded in Frontera, Tabasco, following a 100-kilometer course from Villahermosa along the Grijalva River. The event featured 20 participating vessels, including turbine and outboard engines.
Eduardo Sarabia Jr., piloting boat number 290, secured first place with a time of 39 minutes and 34 seconds. He was followed by Fabián Gutiérrez in boat 258 and Eduardo Sarabia Lo in boat 390. While 14 pilots completed the course within the official time limits, six vessels arrived after the 13:25 cutoff and were excluded from the official rankings.
Tabasco Governor Javier May Rodríguez participated in the event, signaling the start of the race in Villahermosa and welcoming competitors at the old Customs pier in Frontera. The competition is part of an effort to revive a sporting tradition that had been absent for four decades. The event was accompanied by the ‘Ritmos y Sabores del Grijalva’ festival, which included local festivities and watercraft demonstrations.
