Frosinone Calcio honors restored religious effigy
Frosinone Calcio players and management have expressed a deep spiritual connection to a restored effigy of the Madonna of Lourdes, now affectionately dubbed the ‘Madonna della Serie A’ by supporters. The statue, which resides in a shrine in front of the Santa Maria Goretti parish, was previously vandalized and decapitated in April.
Restoration efforts, funded by both the club and its fans, were completed in May, coinciding with the team’s successful promotion to Serie A. The shrine has been decorated with yellow and blue flowers and rosary beads, reflecting the club’s colors.
Local parish priest Don Massimiliano Lucchi noted the long-standing relationship between the club and the church, stating that club president Stirpe and many players are frequent attendees of religious services and have established strong ties with the community.
