Frosinone emerges as Serie A surprise through high-pressing tactics

Frosinone has emerged as a surprise performer in the early stages of the Serie A season under manager Massimiliano Alvini. Following their promotion from Serie B, the team has maintained a strong position, losing only once and remaining close to the league leaders.

Alvini’s tactical approach relies on an aggressive high-pressing style and rapid transitions, utilizing formations such as 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Statistical data indicates that Frosinone leads Serie A in pressing intensity, recording the best Passes Per Defensive Action (PPDA) metric at 9.5. This places them ahead of established clubs like Roma in terms of defensive aggression.

While this high-intensity style has led to the fifth-highest number of chances created, it also carries risks, as the team currently allows the most shots in the league. Key contributors to their success include goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani, forward Giorgi Kvernadze, and midfielder Romano Schmid.
