Frosinone recognized for school sustainability amid local institutional tensions

The Legambiente ‘Ecosistema Scuola’ 2026 report has highlighted Frosinone for its progress in school sustainability and safety. The city received recognition for the widespread use of renewable energy installations in school buildings and the implementation of ‘Zone 30’ speed-reduction areas around various educational sites. Additionally, the report noted the new Madonna della Neve primary school, which opened in June 2025 to accommodate approximately 300 children.

However, the report has also highlighted institutional tensions within the city. While the Municipality of Frosinone is being praised for its sustainability initiatives, the Province is facing criticism regarding the Francesco Severi Scientific High School. Students and families have protested the conditions of the school’s new location on via Verdi, citing concerns over small classrooms and poor spatial layout. This has created a contrast between the city's recognized successes in school infrastructure and the ongoing disputes regarding provincial management of secondary education facilities.
