Frozen foods emerge as a tool for waste reduction and budgeting
A study by Nomad Foods, conducted by Focaldata among 10,750 adults across six European countries, indicates that frozen foods are increasingly viewed as a pragmatic solution for budget management and waste reduction.
In France, 54% of respondents believe that using more frozen foods effectively reduces household food waste. The data shows that while four out of ten French consumers report throwing away fresh vegetables every month, that figure drops to fewer than three in ten for frozen vegetables. This reduction in waste has significant economic implications, as food waste can cost an average European household up to 624 euros annually.
Despite these benefits, the study highlights a persistent perception gap regarding nutrition, as consumers continue to harbor doubts about the nutritional quality of frozen products compared to fresh alternatives.
