FRSC reports zero articulated-vehicle crashes in Abuja corridor

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that its time-window strategy for managing articulated vehicles along the Nyanya corridor in Abuja has prevented crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles since its implementation in March.

Under the guidance of Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed, the strategy requires articulated vehicles and petroleum tankers to remain on the hard shoulder between 4pm and 9pm to avoid peak traffic congestion. Drivers are also provided with road safety education during this period. Vehicles are permitted to rejoin the main carriageway once traffic eases.

Despite this success, the FRSC warned that persistent violations among tanker drivers continue to pose significant risks. Spokesman Osondu Ohaeri identified speeding, driver fatigue, overloading, and driving against traffic as major concerns. He noted that some drivers attempt long-distance journeys, such as from Kano to Lagos, without adequate rest, and others exceed speed limits to meet delivery schedules, compromising vehicle stability and road safety.
