Fruit and aromatic plants suitable for container gardening
Various fruit trees and aromatic plants can be successfully cultivated in small spaces such as balconies, patios, or terraces using containers.
Fruit options include dwarf lemon trees, such as the Meyer variety, which can be kept under two meters tall and requires abundant sunlight. Blueberries, specifically compact varieties like Northsky and Northcountry, are suitable for wide containers provided they are grown in acidic soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Dwarf olive trees, such as the Arbequina variety, also tolerate high sun exposure in large pots.
For aromatic use, lemon thyme (Thymus × citriodorus) is a perennial option that thrives in containers with sufficient natural light and well-drained soil. It requires several hours of direct sunlight and moderate watering to prevent root damage from excess moisture.
