Frutillar dairy plant shut down over Listeria risk
The Los Lagos regional health authority (SEREMI de Salud), led by Evelyn Brintrup, ordered the closure of a dairy processing and distribution plant in the commune of Frutillar, Chile, after an epidemiological investigation linked a case of septicemia to Listeria. During a sanitary inspection, officials identified serious deficiencies, including lack of an authorized wastewater disposal system, structural and operational shortcomings, and inadequate documentation, all deemed a health risk.
A sanitary summary was opened, the plant’s operation was prohibited, and all cheese products on site were retained for laboratory testing to confirm the presence of Listeria. The plant’s name was not disclosed while the investigation remains ongoing.
