Frutillar Municipality provides bus for students traveling to Puerto Octay

The Municipality of Frutillar has begun operating a 39‑seat bus to transport students from the commune to schools in Puerto Octay. The measure follows a peaceful protest by students and parents of Liceo Benjamín Muñoz Gamero, after which Mayor Javier Arismendi convened an extraordinary council meeting and approved a joint agreement with the Municipality of Puerto Octay.

The bus started service on 29 July, allowing the roughly 120 schoolchildren, including those from San Vicente de Paul and Alberto Hurtado, to attend classes while regional education authorities continue to work on a permanent transportation solution. Mayor Arismendi stressed that, although public education is no longer administratively the municipality’s responsibility, the state must ultimately resolve the issue.
